I've knit this Bandana Cowl by Purl Bee, a few times. I even kept one for myself in grey and I find myself choosing it over and over. It is simple, but has a great shape. I love it with t-shirts especially, I think it adds a hint of sophistication and I've been asked quite a few times where I got it. Anyway, I found myself wanting a bit more color so when I saw this chunky alpaca blend I thought it just might work. It's much looser than my other cowl, probably because my yarn wasn't as tightly woven, but I like the drape and especially the softness.
I also experimented with a new bindoff on this project. I'm sure my fellow knitters are aware of Jenny's surprisingly stretchy bind off, but if not, you need to check it out. I don't think I'll be binding off traditionally ever again. No more sizing up or having a loose edge. It is marvelous, I'm kicking myself for not trying it before.
I know winter is about done here, but I think we'll see a few more coldish days before I have to tuck it away. Happy knitting!
I had never tried that bind off until I read this blog post. Thank you so much! Such a good trick. I used it on my Gaptastic cowl. It takes sooo much yarn for that bind off though that it took me a few tries to leave myself enough yarn without running out. It was worth all of the rip outs though.
ReplyDeleteYour cowl looks great--so soft and silky.
