A Dollhouse for Sadie

I realized today that I never shared Dean's beautiful dollhouse with you, so bear with me as we re-visit Christmas for a minute...
I wanted her to have a dollhouse.  This Dollhouse, from Bella Luna toys was on the top of my list.

Isn't it beautiful? I had high hopes of it being delivered to my doorstep, but then Dean saw the price tag- $199.00.  "I can build one", he insisted.  It's not that I didn't have faith in his carpentry skills, I just didn't want him slaving away out in the garage at 3:30 a.m., Christmas Morning, trying to finish it.  He reminded me we would be in Utah, so it would totally be done before we left, so I reluctantly removed it from my shopping cart and agreed to let him build one instead.

I'm so glad I did.  He took the measurements from the dollhouse online and got to work.  He held up the first piece of wood he cut and asked for my approval.  It was HUGE.  Turns out the dollhouse looks A LOT smaller online.   We ended up starting from scratch and using our own dimensions to build a more manageable toy.  He sanded, and cut, and cut and sanded, and sanded some more, and almost met the deadline.  There was some late night carpentry despite his assurances.  He got it all done except the stairs.

With a staircase and accessories still to come, it's still a bit of a work in progress, but it gets played with so often, I'm glad we didn't wait.  A classic toy, handmade by dad.  Thank you, Dean,  for making my ideas even better!!  Just wait until you see what I have in mind for next year...

  1. It looks so great and it's all the more special since it was built by Dad. Good job Dean.
