Field Day

"Mom, this was the best school day ever", a very hot and sweaty Alan informed me last Friday at 2:45 p.m.  He was recently voted the wiggliest boy in the first grade and I am routinely asked if I feed him speed for breakfast, so a whole day of outside play was the perfect day for him.  While others were seeking shady resting spots, Alan was begging his teacher for "one more time down the slide".

Sneaky Alan, he informed me he was the best one at the relay races the day before, and so it was no surprise on field day when I caught him strategically cutting in line when his class was behind so that he could make up the time.  His class cheered and cheered as he crossed the finish line and he's never smiled so wide... or loved a silly green ribbon more.

Ben enjoyed himself, but with a bit of a take it or leave it attitude. He's a lot like me, I've decided.  Willing to give his all when required, but much more likely to seek a shady spot and chat with his friends.

Relays, and obstacle courses, and snow cones, and tug-o-wars... who could ask for anything more.

Spring Break Cont...

Our second beach trip with Grandma JoJo and Grandpa Blake started out iffy. I feel like all our most recent beach days have started out that way. But, the weather held and even though the water was too cold for me, it wasn't as cold as last time.  We even managed to find a few new "living treasures".

He did NOT want to put his starfish back...

Oh, my heart!!!

Best seat on the beach...

He was so proud of his first castle... all by himself!

Despite the clouds we all managed to get burned.  My feet are still peeling. Dean mentioned, as he helped load our gear, that our trips to the beach now resemble the Israelites packing for their 40 yr. stint in the wilderness.  Yes, beaching it with kids is not for the faint of heart, but once you're there, magic really does happen.  Isn't it awesome what can happen with a little sand and water? ...and starfish and crabs...and Cheetos.

Spring Break

I'm just getting around to posting these pics from our adventures with Grandma and Grandpa during Spring Break.  We made our way to The Marianna Caverns and then to Falling Waters State Park.  We hiked and explored, encountered snakes and bats, discovered sink holes and waterfalls, stalagmites and stalactites...  It was a full day, and luckily a chilly one, or Grandpa might have stayed in the car.  It still feels weird saying, "we're going to Florida for the day", but it's beautiful,  and there really is so much to see.  Thanks for being such willing participants, Grandma and Grandpa!
