Kitchen Garden Progress

Garden boxes, finally!!  I'm so happy with them.  I love the size and I LOVE how close they are to our house.  I always wanted a kitchen garden and when I saw the south facing exposure and the large quantities of grass, well, it seemed like the perfect fit.  we're the only ones with a garden in the side yard, but I like to think we're just living up to the standard of weirdness we've already established with the neighbors.

If we were in Utah they would be ready just in time for the tomatoes to go in this weekend.  Alas, we are in Alabama and our neighbors are already asking if we want their squash.  I've been assured that there will be a chance for a second crop.  Apparently I can plant in August and have tomatoes in October.

How is your garden growing?  We're anxious to see something green in ours.  I have some ideas for the pathways in between and I can't wait to share.  Here's to a plentiful growing season and lot's of greenish thumbs.

  1. So very exciting! It looks great and will be so useful when you need Ben or Alan to run out and get you some parsley or chives--those grow there right? Can't wait for some more updates.

    1. Sarah, I hope parsley and chives grow here, I honestly don't know. I just hope something grows!! I didn't consider that my inept gardening skills would be on display for all to see when I started tearing out the grass...

  2. They look amazing and what a great use for the side yard. You may just be starting a neighborhood trend. I recently read somewhere that to be content in life is to have a love of gardening and a love of books and you love both (among all the other great things too).

    1. Julie, I doubt we're starting a trend, but if the goal was to meet more neighbors, than we've done that. EVERYONE has been over to ask why we're tearing up the grass. I'm hoping for contentment..although what this really means is that somewhere deep inside me I've settled into the realization that this move is for the long haul because I have a garden now. I think that's why it's taken me so long...I didn't want to to be real. Let's hope contentment finds me....
