Summer Solstice

This photo was taken at 9:00 p.m. MST.  After a year in Alabama we had forgotten the sun stays awake so long.

If any of you know my father you will think the following post is a lie.  Five days ago he mentioned he would like to host a party to celebrate the Summer Solstice.  My mom and I could only look at each other in disbelief.  You know the song, "Everybody loves a party, that's why we invited you, party pooper..."? My father is the ultimate party pooper (and I say that with all the love in my heart).

True to his word, Dad hosted the perfect Summer Solstice get together.  There were no drum circles or henna tattoos that usually accompany such celebrations, but there was plenty of root beer, and ice cream, and croquet.  The perfect accompaniment to a perfect Summer night.

My "little" brothers

I love that there's another ball sitting unused just three feet away, I guess red balls are better..

Some beautiful light

Gma. JoJo's homemade caramel corn. A summer staple.

Mother daughter stripes

Grandpa finally got her on his lap.

Tomorrow the shadows will shift and each day will be just a bit shorter.  Today we embraced the light, and held on to summer just a little bit longer than some tired eyes could handle.

Happy Summer!!

  1. You'll have to share that recipe for the caramel corn. We've been looking for a good one that's tried and true, and it looks delish!!
